Pubblichiamo di seguito il testo del Videomessaggio che il Santo Padre Leone XIV ha inviato ai partecipanti della 144a “Supreme Convention” dei Cavalieri di Colombo, in corso a Dever, negli Stati Uniti d’America dal 4 al 6 agosto 2026:
Dear friends,
I am pleased to greet all of you who are attending the 144th Supreme Convention of the Knights of Columbus, taking place in Denver, Colorado. I also offer the assurance of my spiritual closeness to those who are participating virtually in the opening ceremonies.
As you gather for these days of discussion, fraternity and prayer, under the theme of “In The One, We Are One,” I would like to reflect briefly with you on the importance of promoting the virtues of unity and charity, two foundational principles of your Order.
First, unity. At the Last Supper, Jesus prayed for his Apostles, that they all would be one (cf. Jn 17:21). Yet our Lord asked that this gift of unity be given not only to them, but also to those who would believe in him through their word throughout the centuries (cf. Jn 17:20). However, the preservation of unity is often not easy, and it cannot be taken for granted. It must be actively cultivated through honest and humble dialogue.
In this regard, I encourage all of you to continue bearing witness to that concord which Jesus so ardently desires in your families, your parishes and in the wider communities where you live and serve. In an age all too often marked by division and pointed rhetoric, there is a great need for prophets of harmony who seek to build bridges and strive to reconcile opposing positions wherever possible.
Works of charity, the second virtue, can often be a way to promote unity. As many of you have likely experienced, when we reach out to help those in need, there frequently develops a certain concord between those who give and those who receive, as well as among those who work together to assist their brothers and sisters. Thus, charity becomes not only a response to human suffering but also a powerful means of fostering fraternity and strengthening the communion that is at the heart of the Christian life.
Your own history bears eloquent testimony to this truth. Building upon the efforts begun by your noble founder, Blessed Michael McGivney, the Knights of Columbus have worked together for well over a century to show Christ’s love to the unborn, expectant mothers, persecuted Christians, victims of war and human trafficking, the poor and vulnerable, and those who live on the margins of society. Through the initiatives undertaken by your local Councils as well as at the national and international levels, countless people have benefitted from your kindness. For my part, I express deep gratitude for your Order’s continued generosity to the less fortunate, and trust that your endeavors will continue to bear fruit for many years to come.
With these brief thoughts, I offer cordial good wishes for the work of the Supreme Convention, which I entrust to the intercession of Mary, Mother of the Church, and to that of Blessed Michael McGivney. I now impart to you my Apostolic Blessing, which I willingly extend to all the members of the Knights of Columbus and to your families.
May the blessing of Almighty God, the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, come down upon you and remain with you forever. Amen.

Cari amici,
sono lieto di rivolgere un saluto a tutti voi che partecipate alla 144ª Convention Suprema dei Cavalieri di Colombo, in corso a Denver, in Colorado. Assicuro inoltre la mia vicinanza spirituale a coloro che partecipano virtualmente alle cerimonie di apertura.
Mentre vi riunite per queste giornate di confronto, fraternità e preghiera, sotto il tema “Nell’Uno, siamo uno”, desidero riflettere brevemente con voi sull’importanza di promuovere le virtù dell’unità e della carità, due principi fondamentali del vostro Ordine.
Innanzitutto, l’unità. Nell’Ultima Cena, Gesù pregò per i suoi Apostoli affinché fossero tutti una cosa sola (cfr. Gv 17,21). Tuttavia, il Signore chiese che questo dono dell’unità fosse concesso non solo a loro, ma anche a coloro che avrebbero creduto in Lui grazie alla loro parola nel corso dei secoli (cfr. Gv 17,20). Preservare l’unità, però, non è sempre facile e non può essere dato per scontato; essa va coltivata attivamente attraverso un dialogo onesto e umile.
A questo proposito, vi incoraggio tutti a continuare a testimoniare quella concordia che Gesù desidera così ardentemente, nelle vostre famiglie, nelle vostre parrocchie e nelle comunità più ampie in cui vivete e prestate servizio. In un’epoca fin troppo spesso segnata da divisioni e da retorica aspra, c’è grande bisogno di profeti di armonia che cerchino di costruire ponti e si adoperino per riconciliare posizioni contrapposte, ovunque sia possibile.
Le opere di carità – la seconda virtù – possono spesso rappresentare una via per promuovere l’unità. Come molti di voi avranno probabilmente sperimentato, quando ci facciamo avanti per aiutare chi è nel bisogno, si crea spesso una certa concordia tra chi dona e chi riceve, così come tra coloro che collaborano per assistere i propri fratelli e sorelle. In tal modo, la carità diventa non solo una risposta alla sofferenza umana, ma anche un potente mezzo per favorire la fraternità e rafforzare quella comunione che è al cuore della vita cristiana.
La vostra stessa storia offre una testimonianza eloquente di questa verità. Proseguendo l’opera avviata dal vostro nobile fondatore, il Beato Michael McGivney, i Cavalieri di Colombo hanno lavorato insieme per oltre un secolo per manifestare l’amore di Cristo ai nascituri, alle future madri, ai cristiani perseguitati, alle vittime della guerra e della tratta di esseri umani, ai poveri e ai vulnerabili, nonché a coloro che vivono ai margini della società. Grazie alle iniziative intraprese dai vostri Consigli locali, così come a livello nazionale e internazionale, innumerevoli persone hanno beneficiato della vostra benevolenza. Da parte mia, esprimo profonda gratitudine per la costante generosità del vostro Ordine verso i meno fortunati e confido che il vostro impegno continui a portare frutti ancora per molti anni.
Con queste brevi riflessioni, porgo i miei più cordiali auguri per i lavori della Convenzione Suprema, che affido all’intercessione di Maria, Madre della Chiesa, e del Beato Michael McGivney. Imparto ora la mia Benedizione Apostolica, che estendo volentieri a tutti i membri dei Cavalieri di Colombo e alle vostre famiglie.
La benedizione di Dio Onnipotente, Padre, Figlio e Spirito Santo, discenda su di voi e rimanga sempre con voi. Amen.
